In my previous post, we talked of how important link wheels are for building your blogs SEO and ultimately bringing more traffic to it.

Linkwheels if implemented and done correctly can help boosting up blogs search engine ranking which eventually helps bring more traffic. However, you need to make sure that you target keywords that already do not have too much competition. Finding the right keyword is a process in itself and it’s not necessary that the hit the nail on target in your first attempt… So, let’s see how the process works

Step 1 – Firstly, let’s go to Google’s free keyword tool – Google AdWords

Step 2 – Enter the keyword or keyword phrase for the niche you’re targeting. In this example, I’ve used “acne” as my main niche and “how to treat acne” as my sub niche. My objective is to offer acne cure products to our readers to make affiliate sales.

Step 3 – Make sure to select Match Type as “Exact”. This actually gives you search results for no of searches for “how to treat acne”. Below are the results

Step 4 – Now, we need to check the competition. Competition is measured by no. of sites who are targeting this keyword by either optimizing their complete site for these keywords or by mentioning them in a few posts / articles of theirs.

What I did here was to go to google.com and enter the phrase “how to treat acne” in quotes. This looks for the phrase in the exact manner in different websites /blogs and throws up the results as shown above. based on the results I’ve got in google, I would not target this keyword as the competition is a bit too high. I would personally look for competition under <30000 websites.
