These SEO Factors will determine your Blogs Success

If you recall my previous post talked about the basics and focussed on how SEO works. Today, we will discuss on the off and on page SEO factors that will determine your blog’s success.

On Page Factors

Title Tag - From an SEO point of view there is no more important tag than the Title Tag. This is the tag that tells the search engines what your webpage is all about. Further than that it’s also the title of your listing in the search engines. From a layman point of view, it’s the Title of your blog post. So make sure to make it look attractive…

Meta Description & Meta keyword - Meta description and Meta keyword are used to tell people what the listing is all about. What i’ve read is that in the earlier days these factors used to carry a lot of weight, but now they’re only used for information.

Keywords - Are keyword/s in which you are trying to rank highly for in the search engines. There can be a main keyword that your website is trying to achieve a rank for - i refer to these as tier 1 keywords. To support the tier 1 keywords, you start building up tier 2 keywords. For example your main keyword is “weight loss” and the supporting keywords are “diet”, “lose weight fast”etc etc…. hope you get the point now.

Keyword Density - When you write and put up content on your website you need to show search engines what your content is relative to.  You do this by mentioning the targeted keywords in your posts. In the SEO world, a good keyword density is around 2%-5%. This would mean that the keyword “xxxx” should show up in your content 3 times per every 100 words of your content.

Domain Age - The age of your domain is also considered by Google. The older you are the better for your website.

Off Page Factors

Backlinks - This is the most important factor for your websites. The famous Google Page Rank (PR) is determined by the no. of backlinks to your site. Among all the factors mentioned in this post, this is what you should focus 90% of your efforts on.

Backlinks can be obtained by commenting on do follow blogs and other websites. There are methods on which I will dwell later on to check your competitors links and obtain backlinks from there. For the time being, you can look for blogs using the following method to carry on with your commenting activity:

1) Go to http://www.blogsearch.google.com
2) Type in the main topic of your website
3) Click on the first title that comes up
4) Read a snippet of their blog post
5) Leave a comment on the blog

When you leave your comments make sure to enter your keyword in the “name” field. This helps because it creates your anchor text with the website you entered as the address where people will go when clicked.
