Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important).

The different kind of backlinks are:

1. High PR - This is from sites/pages with a high PageRank according to the google tool and so will pass link juice down to your site and increase its rank and own PR eventually.

2. .EDU - These are extremely hard to get because these domains are used by colleges and university’s mainly and getting a backlink from these sites tells google that your site is trusted and a good source of information.

3. .GOV – These are exactly the same as .edu backlinks however they are from government sites.

4. Traffic Flow – These are backlinks from blog comments and generally anywhere that you can filter traffic from someone else’s site to yours. They have little to no effect on rankings but instead send you traffic and leads.

5. Set up - Social Bookmarking, RSS and Directory Submissions I call start up backlinks because I get them every time I make a new site, submit an article, make a lense etc.
